Krakow

May 03

Road to KrakowSpring has come and according to our tradition we had to make a short journey somewhere. We chose a destination full of history and a place where we could get easily by car: Krakow, ex capital of Poland between XI and XVI centuries. We knew we had a long road in front of us so we went off at 4am. This proved to be a good idea considering we by-passed the traffic congestion in Romania.

The road, although long, ten hours of driving, wasn’t boring at all: coquettish villages in Hungary and Poland, amazing sites of mountains and old fortresses. Before we crossed the border in Poland we drove along Tatra Mountains: the high and mighty Mountains were still covered with snow and we even saw some tourists skiing. We arrived in Krakow at 4 in the afternoon and start looking four our hostel: Kadetus.

dlt3 Although I wrote so far only about European cities I will try to describe an amazing place from my own country Romania: the Danube Delta.
If you didn’t know the Danube is the only river in the whole world that passes through ten countries and four capitals. It empties in the Black Sea making a delta which covers about five thousands squares. Since 1991 Danube Delta is a biosphere reserve. The Danube Delta is a low alluvial plain, mostly covered by wetlands and water. It consists of an intricate pattern of marshes, channels, streamlets and lakes. Situated on major migratory routes, and providing adequate conditions for nesting and hatching, the Danube Delta is a magnet for birds from six major eco-regions of the world, including the Mongolian, Arctic and Siberian. There are over 320 species of birds found in the delta during summer of which 166 are hatching species and 159 are migratory. Over one million individuals (swans, wild ducks, bald coots, etc.) winter here. Before it empties in the sea, the Danube splits in three branches: Chilia, Sulina and Sf. Gheorghe.
